The genetic counseling is the provision of true, fair and objective information in a professional care relationship that provides guidance, but allows patients and their families to make their own choices. Counseling is essential prior to any genetic testing and should be continued later if the results comprise alternatives for the individual and the proven family. The genetic counseling should be within the reach of all and guide, not advise. It has two main components: a) the provision of accurate, necessary and objective information that patients and their families can use, and b) a sympathetic and empathic non-directive bond that supports patients to make appropriate decisions. The professional should avoid deliberately biased information that leads the patient to do what the professional considers best, the genetic counseling represents to listen to their concerns, help them express and understand their validity and, as much as possible, attend all decisions.
